Themes between Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi

In Slumdog Millionaire there are many themes throughout the story that leads Jamal to success through his life to get out of the slums. One theme is poverty, as he lives in the slums of Mumbai in India and his constant struggle to get out. Jamal and his brother work hard to make their little businesses ventures work, after the lost their mother, to survive and they will do anything to get out and make a better life for each other. Poverty affects most of India as you are born rich or poor and you don’t change unless to happen to come across some money, but in the movie it show that they have the strength and determination to make it through anything that comes at them. Another theme is determination as where ever they are in India they make it work for them no matter what if its stealing and reselling the items or working in a restaurant. Their determination leads them to great success as they want better for one another and will not give up no matter how hard or dangerous situations get.

In Life of Pi there is one clear theme that everyone can identify in the story and that is religion, religion leads Pi in his life and it’s what he does due to it. Religion is the one main reason why Pi survives his journey out at sea, as the three religions keep him going when there is nothing to go on for. If Pi’s faith was not strong he would not survive as long as he did but he sticks to it and through it he gets his mind of his struggle in life and pushes on to the end.
